How the Clari Projection Works
In this article, we cover how the Clari projection works and how the projection is calculated. To learn more, check out How To Interpret the Clari Projection.
How much are we going to close this quarter?
This question is top of mind for many sales managers and execs, so we created the Clari Projection to provide an intelligent estimate based on your current pipeline and historical win rates. Read on for more detail about how the Clari Projection is calculated.

In the screenshot above, Jason's team has closed between 34% and 58% of the deals they had in Best Case on the same day in the previous four quarters. Rather than simply taking an average of these numbers, Clari applies machine learning to determine which quarters are most similar to the current quarter and weighs those more heavily. For example, for a highly seasonal business, the most representative quarter would likely be the same quarter last year.
For another business with strong quarter-to-quarter momentum, last quarter might be a better predictor of this quarter’s results. In this case, Clari predicted that Jason's team will close 43% of the deals currently in Best Case. With a total of $7.1 million in deals currently in this category, that would translate to $3 million closed by the end of the quarter. Clari applies this same logic to each forecast category or stage.
Unexpected Wins
To complete the projection there is one more category of deals Clari needs to take into account, and that’s deals that aren’t currently included in the forecast. How do we account for these unexpected wins? Again Clari looks back at previous quarters, but this time Clari looks at the new deals that came in after this day in the quarter.
Our data science models determine which quarters are more likely to predict the volume of new deals that will be brought in this quarter, and the result is a projection for the total value of these new deals. In this case, new includes deals that are newly created as well as deals that are pulled in and pushed in. It looks like Jason's team will bring in $3.4 million on top of the deals already included in their forecast.
Once projections have been calculated for each individual forecast category as well as new deals, they are added up to calculate the overall Clari Projection for the quarter. Based on the current state of Jason's team’s pipeline and their historical win rates, Clari is predicting they will finish the quarter with $41 million closed. Armed with this datapoint, he has a much more informed sense of whether or not he is on track to make his number without waiting until it’s too late to take action.
