Telecommunications fraud has plagued the telephony industry for many years. It is an ongoing issue that costs telecom providers billions of dollars in unauthorized and fraudulent call traffic. While
the Salesloft Dialer is a tool generally used for placing outbound dials to prospects and other leads, it’s still possible to encounter outbound fraud.
In this article, we’ll walk through Salesloft’s measures to prevent outbound fraud, including:
Destinations and regions around the world have different call processing rates. Scammers with the malicious intent attempt to send high-volume traffic to those destinations to cause financial damage. Due to this, our carriers form risk assessments to track these destinations (numbers) and help protect their customers from becoming victims (vehicles) of outbound fraud.
Our carriers’
GeoPermissions feature assesses each destination’s risk factor. This risk factor breaks down as follows:
- High-Risk: Destinations that businesses don’t usually need to reach and are blocked by default. These options typically consist of mobile/landline numbers for terminating fraudulent calls.
- Low-Risk: Destinations for most mobile/landlines that are not considered malicious and are allowed by default.
In some cases, customers need to conduct calls to certain high-risk destinations so we can customize destination access on a per-customer basis. For more information, please refer to our list of
High-Risk Dialer Destinations.
Along with ensuring our carriers maintain global risk assessment, we also require them to maintain a
blocklist of numbers. This blocklist includes destinations that will not complete regardless of risk, as they are known bad actors or unwanted numbers. This preventative measure ensures that users do not accidentally call these types of numbers and engage in fraudulent activity. This list is updated frequently as the carrier networks add known malicious numbers to it.
By default, Salesloft blocks all high-risk traffic for our customers, meaning users are automatically protected from accidental dials to high-risk or fraudulent destinations. No further action is needed for regular Dialer terminations. However, any customers looking to enable GeoPermissions to bypass risk-related dialer restrictions should contact our
Support team (
support@salesloft.com). From there, we can help you enable the appropriate permissions.
Although we have the aforementioned safeguards in place, it’s important that customers remain wary of unwanted calls or bad actors. If you suspect any fraudulent activity, please report it to our team by opening a Support ticket, or contact your Customer Success Manager as soon as possible so we can prevent future risks.
