Sub-Object Mode in Accounts
Sub-Object Modes is an enhancement to the Accounts grid that allows you to configure account modes based on objects (e.g., Opportunity, Product, Consumption Record, etc.) that don't live on the account itself. With this enhancement, you can drive new inspection use cases based on related account objects without creating new fields on the account record in Salesforce.
Note that this functionality mirrors what we support with related object modes in the Opportunities module, which you can read more on here.
What is "sub" or "related" object mode?
A Sub-Object mode is a mode configured in the Accounts Module to query an object that is not the standard account object in Salesforce but is related to it through Account ID. When modes are created with a related object as the query object, Clari can aggregate and report the related object’s information on the Account Record. Examples of related objects are opportunity records, consumption records, product records, etc.
Note: The related object data must either live in SFDC (e.g., Opportunity) or be ingested through Postgres (e.g., Consumption records). As Clari adds new data sources, we'll have account modes to support these other data types too.
Use Cases
With the introduction of Sub-Object modes within Accounts, Clari can now aggregate key metrics not on the account object for more signals contributing to an account’s risk or momentum. Examples include usage metrics, CSAT, opportunity data, etc. These are especially critical for account teams approaching renewal/expansion and provide more actionable insights beyond activity data showed today.
- As a rep or manager, I want to see accounts without activity over the last 90 days where we have an open opportunity with an amount greater than $500,000.
- As a manager or leader, I want to see all accounts without activity over the last 30 days where consumption is below an acceptable threshold over the last year, and there is a renewal upcoming in the next 90 days.
How to create a sub-object mode
The first step is to create a sub-object account mode (if one does not already exist). Please refer to the following documentation for a step-by-step guide on mode creation in Clari's Field Configuration Module.
Note: As you are configuring your mode, please remember the mode must meet the following criteria:
-
The reporting object is defined as the account
-
The query object must be an object, such as opportunity, which relates to the account
Once you’ve created a mode that meets these criteria, you should see the new mode as an option from the mode drop-down menu at the top of the Accounts Module:

A Few Notes on Sub Object Modes
Currently, sub-object modes in Accounts only support filtering and aggregation of related object records on the account row. It doesn't support the ability to expand the account row to view underlying sub-records.
It does not support the ability to create multiple columns that leverage the same underlying field with a different filter expression applied. For example, this feature does not support creating three columns in a consumption mode for Consumption Last 90 days, Consumption Last 30 Days, and Consumption Last 7 Days if each of these columns leverages the consumption.amount field but would need to be filtered by different date values (e.g., Date = 90, 30, or 7, respectively)
Consumption records are limited by the ingestion pipeline, so your company must have a Postgres data source to connect to Clari. We are currently exploring early access participants with Snowflake data sources. Read more about how to set up data ingestion.
