Groove Dynamic Merge Fields
The Dynamic Merge Fields functionality expands the customizable options available for users when building templates, flows, and actions within the Groove ecosystem. Traditionally, users were restricted to inserting values from Salesforce objects. With this update, they can utilize dynamic fields such as dates, days of the week, and scheduling links, enabling more flexible and relevant templates for end-users.
Use Cases
-
Automatically populate template content with a specific day of the week without manual entry.
-
Dynamically add personal or company scheduling links for streamlined meeting bookings in outbound communications.
-
Build workflow automations that trigger based on logic (i.e., sending reminders N weekdays later, adjusting for weekends).
How To Use Dynamic Merge Fields
- From Templates, create a new template (top right) or open an existing template to edit.
- Click the merge fields icon {!...} to add merge fields to your template.
- Scroll to find the Dynamic Merge Fields listed under Custom Merge Fields:

The current Dynamic Merge Fields available are schedule-related. Let's cover each Merge Field Type:
- Today: Lists the send day
- Today + X number of days: Lists send day plus the selected number of days (ie if it's Monday and you choose Today + 3 days, you'll have Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of that week listed.
- Today + X number of weekdays: Same as above, just skips Saturdays and Sundays.
- Tomorrow: Lists the day after the send day
4. After you select your Dynamic Merge Field, you'll make other selections based on your field choice. For example, if you choose Scheduler link (learn to set up your scheduler) you'll have options to set the Meeting type, customize the link text, and select meeting times:

5. You can also edit Dynamic Merge Fields directly in the text of your template:

6. Save and use the template as normal; values are merged dynamically based on when the time action is performed.
7. Once a merge field has been evaluated and merged, the only way to replace it is to delete and re-add a new merge field using the merge field selector or by manually typing it.
